Chinese Super League

The Chinese Super League (CSL) is China's leading professional football league, contested by 16 clubs. In the 2010s, the league became world news by paying astronomical salaries to attract stars like Hulk, Oscar, Drogba and Carlos Tévez. Despite massive investments, the league has sought greater financial sustainability following regulations imposed by the Chinese government.

History

O futebol profissional na China foi estruturado em 1994 com a criação da Jia-A League, predecessor da atual Chinese Super League, fundada em sua forma moderna em 2004. A liga passou por um boom de investimentos entre 2015 e 2019, quando clubes como Guangzhou Evergrande e Shanghai SIPG dominaram a cena asiática. Guangzhou FC (ex-Evergrande) venceu sete títulos consecutivos entre 2011 e 2017. A crise financeira de alguns clubes e as restrições impostas pós-pandemia alteraram o cenário da liga nos anos 2020.
