Greek Super League

The Super League is the main division of Greek football, played by 16 clubs. It is historically dominated by Olympiacos, PAOK, Panathinaikos and AEK Athens, the four biggest teams in Greek football. Olympiacos, from Piraeus, is the most successful club in the history of Greek football, with absolute hegemony especially in the 2000s and 2010s.

History

Fundada em 1959 como Alfa Ethniki antes de ser renomeada Super League em 2006, a liga grega tem o Olympiacos como símbolo de sua era mais recente. O clube do Pireu conquistou mais de 20 títulos seguidos em determinados períodos, estabelecendo um dos domínios mais absolutos do futebol europeu. O PAOK, de Salônica, emergiu como rival consistente nas últimas décadas e conquistou títulos históricos em 2019 e 2020. A liga passou por reformas estruturais na década de 2010 para combater problemas de arbitragem e violência nos estádios.
