Uruguayan Primera División

The Uruguayan Primera División is the main football league of the country, being one of the oldest national competitions in the world. Played annually, the league is historically dominated by Peñarol and Nacional, the two largest clubs in the country. The Uruguayan championship has always revealed great talents that later shone in Europe and in the World Cups.

History

Fundada em 1900, a Primera División uruguaia é uma das ligas de futebol mais antigas das Américas e do mundo. O Uruguai foi pioneiro no futebol sul-americano, conquistando dois títulos olímpicos (1924 e 1928) e as duas primeiras Copas do Mundo (1930 e 1950). A liga é historicamente bipolarizada entre Peñarol e Nacional, que somam mais de 90% dos títulos nacionais. A competição tem passado por reformas para tentar equilibrar as forças entre os grandes e os clubes do interior.
