Adrian Mutu was born in Călinești, Romania, on January 8, 1979, and stood out as a skillful and prolific forward at Dinamo Bucharest before transferring to Italian football. In Italy, he played for Hellas Verona and Parma, where he caught the attention of Chelsea, which signed him in 2003 for approximately £15.8 million. In October 2004, however, the English club terminated his contract following a doping test with a positive result for cocaine, which led him to a suspension and a lengthy legal dispute. He resumed his career at Juventus and, mainly, at Fiorentina, where he played from 2006 to 2011 and regained prominence in Italian football and European competitions. He later played for Cesena, Ajaccio and clubs in Romania and India. For the Romanian national team, he played in two European Championships and is one of the greatest goal scorers in the team's history, with 35 goals in 77 games, a record he shares with Gheorghe Hagi.
