Aldair Nascimento dos Santos was born on November 30, 1965, in Ilhéus, Bahia. Discovered by Flamengo, he emerged as an elegant and assured center-back, becoming Carioca Championship champion in 1986 with the Gávea club. In 1989, he transferred to Benfica, Portugal, where he played in the 1990 European Cup final, lost to Milan. The following year, he joined Roma, a club that would define his career: thirteen seasons and over 430 matches, becoming one of the greatest foreign center-backs in Italian football history. At Roma, he won the Italian League championship in 2000-01, alongside stars like Francesco Totti and Gabriel Batistuta, and the Italian Super Cup in 2001. His connection with the club and Roma fans transformed him into an eternal idol in the Italian capital. For the Brazilian National Team, he played 81 matches and appeared in three World Cups: 1990, 1994, and 1998. He was an undisputed starter in Brazil's fourth World Cup title in 1994, in the United States, and in the runner-up finish in 1998, in France. He also won the Copa América in 1989 and 1997.
