Alexandra Popp

Alexandra Popp was born on April 6, 1991 and began her career at FC Silschede, playing in mixed teams until she was fourteen years old, before studying at one of the schools certified as a center of excellence by the German federation. Revealed by MSV Duisburg, she won the UEFA Cup and the German Cup at eighteen in 2009. In 2012, she transferred to VfL Wolfsburg, the club through which she would become one of the greatest strikers in history, winning the treble (Bundesliga, German Cup and Champions League) in her first season. Captain of the German national team between 2019 and 2024, she is the third highest scorer in the team's national history. She was elected three times Germany's Footballer of the Year (2014, 2016 and 2023) and was on the shortlist for the 2023 Women's Ballon d'Or. With the national team, she was Olympic champion in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, scoring a goal in the final against Sweden, and also won Euro 2013. In March 2026, she agreed to transfer to Borussia Dortmund starting in the 2026-27 season, ending a long cycle at Wolfsburg.
