Ángel Labruna

Ángel Labruna was born in Buenos Aires on September 28, 1918 and died in 1983. A forward, he was one of the great idols of River Plate and was part of the famous offensive line known as La Máquina, in the 1940s. He wore the River shirt between 1939 and 1959 and is the club's all-time leading scorer, with 317 goals in 515 games. For River, he was Argentine champion nine times. For the Argentina national team, he played 37 matches. As a coach, he returned to River and, from 1975 onwards, brought back to the club titles that had eluded it for nearly two decades.
