Arrigo Sacchi
Arrigo Sacchi was born in Fusignano, Italy, on April 1, 1946, and became one of the most influential coaches in football history. Without a notable playing career, he built his reputation coaching youth teams and smaller clubs until reaching Parma. In 1987, after eliminating Milan in the Italian Cup with Parma, he was hired by Silvio Berlusconi to manage Milan. With a proposal for zone marking, high pressure and compact lines, he won the 1987-88 Serie A and the 1988 Italian Super Cup. At Milan, Sacchi won two consecutive European Cups (1988-89 and 1989-90), two Intercontinental Cups (1989 and 1990) and two European Super Cups (1989 and 1990), with a team that included Baresi, Maldini, Costacurta, Rijkaard, Gullit and Van Basten. As coach of the Italian national team, between 1991 and 1996, he led Italy to the runner-up position in the 1994 World Cup, decided by penalties against Brazil, and left office after Euro 1996.
