Franz Beckenbauer, the 'Kaiser', is considered the greatest German player of all time and one of the greatest in football history. He revolutionized the libero position by attacking and creating plays, pioneering the concept of the modern defender. He won the 1974 World Cup as a player and returned to win it again in 1990 as a coach.
