William Beveridge Liddell was born in Dunfermline, Scotland, on January 10, 1922. He was signed by Liverpool in 1938 and spent his entire professional career at the English club, becoming one of the greatest figures in the history of the Reds. A strong and fast striker, he played both on the wings and as a center forward. He was known as King Billy by the fans and was Liverpool's main star in the 1940s and 1950s, a period before Bill Shankly's arrival. For Liverpool, he won the English League Championship in 1946-47 and played in the 1950 FA Cup final. Even with the club's relegation in 1954, he remained loyal to the team and was its leading goalscorer for several seasons, scoring 228 goals in 534 games. For the Scotland national team, he played 28 matches and scored 6 goals. He retired in 1961 and died on July 1, 2001, at the age of 79, leaving a legacy of loyalty and respect both on and off the pitch.
