Claudio Reyna was born in Livingston, New Jersey, on July 20, 1973. A midfielder with excellent playmaking ability, he was one of the first Americans to establish himself in European football, playing in leagues in Germany, Scotland and England. Professionally, he played for Bayer Leverkusen, Wolfsburg, Rangers, Sunderland and Manchester City before returning to the United States to play for New York Red Bulls, where he retired in 2008. At Rangers, he won the Scottish Championship and the Scottish Cup in the 1999-2000 season. For the United States national team, he made 112 appearances, scored 8 goals and served as captain in World Cups, including the 2002 campaign, when the team reached the quarterfinals. After hanging up his boots, he moved into management positions in football, including as a sporting director.
