Taffarel

Taffarel

Cláudio Taffarel is the most successful goalkeeper in the history of the Brazilian National Team. Born in Santa Rosa, Rio Grande do Sul, he emerged at Internacional in the 1980s and defended Brazil in three consecutive World Cups. His eternal moment came at the 1994 World Cup in the United States, when he saved Daniele Massaro's penalty in the final against Italy and saw Roberto Baggio miss the last shot, securing Brazil's fourth World Cup title. Four years later, in France, he was once again a hero in the penalty shootout of the semi-final against the Netherlands, taking Brazil to the 1998 final. In Europe, he played for Parma and Reggiana in Italy and had a great period at Galatasaray, where he won the UEFA Cup in 2000, the first European title for a Turkish club. He retired in 2003 and later became a goalkeeper coach for the Brazilian National Team and Galatasaray itself, continuing as a reference in goalkeeper development.
