Didier Deschamps

Didier Deschamps

Didier Deschamps was born on October 15, 1968 in Bayonne, in the French Basque Country, and is one of the few professionals to win the World Cup both as a player and as a coach. Captain of France at the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000, Deschamps was the maestro of the greatest achievements in French football history. As a disciplined midfielder with great game reading, Deschamps was a key piece in winning teams at Marseille and Juventus. With the Italians, he won two Scudetti and reached the Champions League final in two editions. Always captain, his leadership was recognized on the pitch and in the dressing room. In the French National Team, he captained the team that won the 1998 World Cup at home, defeating Brazil 3-0 in the final at Stade de France, and won Euro 2000. He accumulated 103 matches for France, becoming one of the country's most-capped players until his retirement in 2001. As a coach, he led Monaco to the 2004 Champions League final and won Ligue 1 with Marseille in 2010. He took over the French national team in 2012 and led the team to the 2018 World Cup title in Russia, repeating the feat he experienced as a player twenty years before.
