Diego Ribeiro dos Santos, simply known as Diego, is one of the most creative and technical midfielders that Brazilian football has produced in the first half of the 21st century. With a privileged game vision, ability to dribble in tight spaces and powerful shot, the player enchanted fans in Brazil and Europe throughout more than two decades of his career. In Europe, Diego stood out especially at Werder Bremen, where he was part of one of the most offensive teams in German football in the late 2000s. At Werder, he won the DFB-Pokal in 2009 and left his mark as one of the best foreign midfielders to pass through the Bundesliga in that period. His career reached its pinnacle at Flamengo, where he returned to Brazil and became an idol of the red-black nation. At the Rio club, Diego was part of the historic squad that won the Brazilian Championship and the Copa Libertadores in 2019, writing his name in golden letters in the history of Brazilian football. For the Brazilian National Team, Diego accumulated several call-ups and represented the country in international competitions, always being recognized as one of the most talented players of his generation.
