Don Revie

Don Revie was born in Middlesbrough on July 10, 1927, and became known both as a player and as a manager. As an athlete, he played as a deep-lying center-forward and gave his name to the "Revie Plan," a scheme he used at Manchester City in the mid-1950s. He played for Leicester City, Hull City, Manchester City, Sunderland and Leeds United, and was elected Player of the Year by England's association of journalists in 1955. For the English national team, he played 6 matches and scored 4 goals. As manager of Leeds United, from 1961 to 1974, he transformed a second-division club into one of the main forces in England and Europe, winning two English titles, an FA Cup, a League Cup and two Fairs Cups. He managed the English national team from 1974 to 1977, when he left to work in the United Arab Emirates. Revie died on May 26, 1989, in Edinburgh, a victim of motor neuron disease.
