Dunga

Dunga

Dunga was the captain who lifted Brazil's fourth World Cup trophy in 1994. A relentless marking midfielder with outstanding leadership and precise passing, he was born in Ijuí, in Rio Grande do Sul, and turned professional at Internacional in the early 1980s. After stints at Corinthians, Santos and Vasco, he built a solid career in Europe, notably at Fiorentina, where he played alongside Roberto Baggio, and at VfB Stuttgart in Germany. He ended his overseas career at Júbilo Iwata in Japan before returning to Internacional to hang up his boots. In the National Team, Dunga symbolized the pragmatic turn of Brazilian football in the 1990s. Criticized after the 1990 World Cup, he bounced back as captain and midfield pillar in the 1994 World Cup title in the United States, and also played in the 1998 World Cup final. As a coach, he managed the Brazilian National Team in two periods and won the 2007 Copa América and the 2009 Confederations Cup.
