Edgar Davids
Edgar Davids was one of the most intense, recognizable and complete defensive midfielders of his generation. Born in Paramaribo, Suriname, he became naturalized as Dutch and became an indispensable player for Ajax in the club's golden years and for Juventus in the following years. His nickname 'The Pitbull' reflected an aggressive playing style, fierce marking and fight for every ball, combined with above-average technical ability and exceptional game vision. He was a key player in Ajax's legendary generation that won the Champions League in 1995, alongside Kluivert, Seedorf and Clarence Seedorf. At Juventus, he was part of one of the most powerful teams in Italian Serie A, winning multiple national titles. Because of a glaucoma condition, he began playing with special protective glasses that became his trademark in the world of football. For the Dutch national team, he played in the 1998 World Cup in France and Euro 2000, when the Netherlands reached the semi-finals. He ended his career after a spell at Barnet FC in the English fifth division, where he also served as a player-coach.
