Jonas Eduardo Américo, known as Edu, was one of the greatest left wingers in Santos' history. Developed in the Peixe's youth categories, he made his professional debut as a teenager and, at 16 years old, became one of the youngest players ever called up to a World Cup, in 1966. Quick, a skillful dribbler and owner of a classic winger style, Edu formed with Pelé one of the most feared partnerships in Brazilian football in the late 1960s and early 1970s, helping Santos win state and national titles. For the Brazilian National Team, he was in the 1966, 1970 World Cups — when he was part of the three-time world champion squad in Mexico — and 1974. After leaving Santos, he had spells at other clubs, including América de México and Brazilian teams, ending his career in the 1980s.
