Edwin van der Sar
Edwin van der Sar was born in Voorhout, in the Netherlands, and trained through Ajax's youth categories, the club through which he made his professional debut in 1990, being considered one of the best goalkeepers in football history. Still with Ajax, he won the Champions League in 1995 and four Dutch Championship titles, before transferring to Juventus in 1999 and, subsequently, to Fulham in 2001, in search of more playing time as a starter in English football. In 2005 he was signed by Manchester United, where he experienced the most successful phase of his career, winning four Premier League titles and a second Champions League in 2008, when he saved the decisive penalty in the penalty shootout against Chelsea in Moscow. For the Dutch National Team, he played 130 matches between 1995 and 2008, participating in the World Cups of 1998 and 2006 and four European Championships. He retired in 2011, and was later recognized as one of the most complete and decorated goalkeepers in history, and continued in football as an executive, including a stint as CEO of Ajax.
