Elano Ralph Blumer was born on June 14, 1981 in Irecê, Bahia, and became one of the best midfielders of his generation in Brazilian and European football. Revealed by Santos FC, he caught the world's attention by standing out at Shakhtar Donetsk, where he won three consecutive Ukrainian league titles with high-level technical performances. In the Premier League, for Manchester City, he displayed refined game vision, bewildering dribbles and surgical precision in set-piece deliveries, becoming one of the most praised players of the 2007-08 season. For the Brazilian National Team, Elano accumulated 50 call-ups and left his mark at the 2006 World Cup in Germany, contributing with a goal in the thrashing over Japan.
