Emílio Butragueño

Emílio Butragueño

Emílio Butragueño, nicknamed 'El Buitre' (The Vulture), was the great goal scorer for Real Madrid and Spain during the 1980s and early 1990s. His positional intelligence, technical precision, and composure in finishing made him one of the most complete and lethal forwards of his generation in European football. At Real Madrid, Butragueño was a central piece of the team that won five consecutive Spanish League titles between 1986 and 1990 — the so-called 'Quinta del Buitre', a generation of talents developed through the club's youth academy. Alongside Míchel, Martín Vázquez and Sanchís, he was part of one of the most acclaimed generations of Spanish football, and also won two UEFA Cups in 1985 and 1986. His most memorable performance for the Spanish National Team was at the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, when he scored four goals in the historic 5-1 rout against Denmark in the round of 16. After retiring from professional football, Butragueño became an executive at Real Madrid, a position he still holds as vice president of institutional relations.
