Toldo

Francesco Toldo was born in Padua on December 2, 1971, and established himself as one of the main Italian goalkeepers at the turn of the 1990s to the 2000s. Trained in AC Milan's youth categories, he gained prominence at Fiorentina, where he was a starter in the second half of the 1990s. At Euro 2000, he was crucial in the semifinal against the Netherlands: Italy played much of the match with one player down and Toldo saved penalties from Frank de Boer, in regular time and in the shootout, and from Paul Bosvelt, taking Italy to the final. From 2001 onwards, he played for Inter for almost a decade. He was a starter for part of that period and a substitute in other times, and participated in the national titles that Inter accumulated in the second half of the 2000s and in winning the 2009-10 Champions League as a squad member. He ended his career in 2010.
