Frank Stapleton was born in Dublin on July 10, 1956 and was one of the main strikers for Ireland in the 1970s and 1980s. He had a prominent career in English football, at Arsenal and Manchester United. At Arsenal, between 1974 and 1981, he was the team's top scorer and scored in the 1979 FA Cup final, won against Manchester United. In 1981 he left Arsenal for Manchester United, where he stayed until 1987 and won the FA Cup in 1983 and 1985. For the Ireland national team he played 71 matches and scored 20 goals, becoming the country's top scorer at the time. He later played for clubs such as Ajax and Le Havre.
