Beckenbauer
Franz Beckenbauer, the 'Kaiser', is the only man to win the World Cup both as a player (1974) and as a coach (1990). Born in Munich, he revolutionized the defender position by creating the 'libero' concept, a defender who would attack and distribute the game. Captain of Bayern Munich and the German national team in its greatest moments, Beckenbauer is considered the best European player in history by many experts. He died on January 7, 2024.
