Steven Gerrard is considered one of the greatest midfielders in football history and the greatest captain in Liverpool's history, a synonym for leadership, passion and pure talent. His name is forever linked to the miraculous comeback in the 2005 Champions League final in Istanbul, when Liverpool came from 0-3 down to beat AC Milan on penalties. Despite his magnificent career, he never won the Premier League title — a fact that defines the contradiction of his trajectory: too great for a club that was not great enough for him in that period. His devotion to Liverpool is a model of loyalty rarely seen in modern football.
