Giovane Élber

Giovane Élber

Giovane Élber is one of the greatest Brazilian strikers in Bundesliga history. Born in Londrina, he built almost his entire career in Europe and became an idol at Bayern Munich, the club where he experienced his peak years between 1997 and 2003. After spells in Londrina's youth academy and at Milan, still very young, he stood out at Grasshopper in Switzerland and exploded at VfB Stuttgart, where he won the German Cup in 1997. At Bayern, he formed feared attacks alongside names like Carsten Jancker and Mehmet Scholl, won four Bundesliga titles and was an important player in the team that won the Champions League in 2001 and the Intercontinental Cup in the same year. In the 2002-03 season, he shared the Bundesliga scoring title with 21 goals. He ended his European cycle with spells at Lyon — where he was French champion in 2004 — and Borussia Mönchengladbach, before returning to Brazil to play for Cruzeiro, where he retired. For many years he was the greatest Brazilian goalscorer in Bundesliga history, with 133 goals in the competition.
