Hakan Şükür is considered the greatest striker in the history of the Turkish national team and an icon of Galatasaray, the club through which he won the UEFA Cup in 2000. Developed in Sakaryaspor's youth categories, he became a national idol throughout the 1990s. He scored the fastest goal in World Cup history, at 11 seconds, against South Korea in 2002. After retiring, he pursued a political career before becoming involved in controversies that led him to leave Turkey.
