Iker Casillas Fernández is considered one of the greatest goalkeepers in football history. Born in Móstoles, in the Community of Madrid, on May 20, 1981, Casillas spent practically his entire career at Real Madrid, the club for which he became an absolute idol and captain for more than a decade. Known as 'San Iker' by the Madrid fans, Casillas stood out for extraordinary reflexes, leadership and ability to make impossible saves in the most decisive moments. His presence in goal for Real Madrid and the Spanish national team was fundamental for an era of unprecedented dominance in world football. With the Spanish national team, Casillas was central to the achievement of a historic three consecutive trophies: Euro 2008, World Cup 2010 and Euro 2012, becoming the most decorated goalkeeper in the history of international football. His 167 appearances for the Spanish national team constitute a national record. In 2015, he transferred to Porto, where he continued at a high level until he suffered a myocardial infarction during training in May 2019. The episode prematurely ended his active career, but his legacy remains immortal in world football.
