Laszlo Kubala

Laszlo Kubala

Laszlo Kubala is a unique case in football history: the only player to represent three different national teams throughout his career, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, and Spain, due to his trajectory marked by escapes and changes of nationality during the post-war period in Europe. After leaving Hungary in troubled political circumstances in the late 1940s, Kubala ended up settling in Spain, where he signed for Barcelona in 1950. At the Catalan club, he became one of the greatest idols in its history, contributing to one of the club's most successful phases in the 1950s. For the Spanish national team, which he became naturalized in, he played official matches and friendlies, being an important piece of Iberian football at the time. His career is honored to this day at Camp Nou, where a statue in his honor recalls his historic contribution to the club.
