Lisandro Martínez, nicknamed 'El Carnicero' (the Butcher) for his aggressive marking style despite his short stature for a center-back, is an Argentine defender formed through the youth categories of Newell's Old Boys. He gained prominence in Argentine football at Defensa y Justicia, where he was loaned in 2017, making his debut in October of that year and scoring his first goal shortly after, against Temperley. In 2019, he transferred to Ajax, in the Netherlands, where he established himself as a starter for three seasons, accumulating 120 matches and winning two Dutch championships and a Dutch Cup (KNVB Cup), as well as being named Ajax's best player in the 2021/22 season. In July 2022, he was signed by Manchester United for approximately 57 million euros. For the Argentine national team, he was champion of the Copa América 2021, the Finalissima 2022, the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and the Copa América 2024.
