Marcelinho Carioca
Marcelinho Carioca, stage name of Marcelo Henrique Lopes de Oliveira, was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1971 and became one of the most creative and irreverent midfielders in Brazilian football of the 1990s. An absolute idol at Corinthians, he was recognized for his precise free-kick conversions, bewildering dribbling skills and ability to decide matches with moments of individual genius. At Corinthians, he lived the peak of his career, winning national titles and the unprecedented FIFA Club World Championship in 2000. Alongside Edilson, Vampeta and others, he was part of one of the most successful generations in the history of the São Paulo club, becoming an eternal idol to Corinthians fans. He represented the Brazilian National Team on several occasions and also played abroad for Galatasaray, from Turkey. After retiring from playing, he became a frequent figure in Brazilian sports media, maintaining his charismatic personality.
