Marco Etcheverry

Marco Etcheverry, 'El Diablo', is considered one of the greatest players in Bolivia's history. A left-footed midfielder with refined technique, he was a central figure of the generation that led the Bolivian national team to the 1994 World Cup, the country's first qualification through qualifying rounds. Developed at Destroyers and consecrated at Bolívar, Etcheverry played for clubs such as Colo-Colo in Chile and América de Cali in Colombia, before becoming a legend of North American football: he was one of the great names in the founding of MLS in 1996, wearing number 10 for D.C. United. With the Washington club, he won three MLS Cups (1996, 1997 and 1999) and was named the league's best player (MVP) in 1998, the year he also won the CONCACAF Champions Cup. At the 1994 World Cup, his participation was marked by his expulsion in his debut against Germany, minutes after entering the field.
