Marco van Basten

Marco van Basten is considered the most complete striker in the history of football, winner of three Ballon d'Or awards in four years. Born in Utrecht, his impossible volley goal in the Euro 1988 final against the USSR is universally considered the most beautiful in history. His career was prematurely interrupted by a serious ankle injury at 28 years old, but his legacy remains untouched. He formed with Gullit and Rijkaard the most brilliant trio in Dutch football.
