Marcos

Marcos

Marcos is considered one of the greatest goalkeepers in Palmeiras' history and one of the greatest idols of Brazilian football. Affectionately nicknamed 'Cuca' by the green-and-white fans, the goalkeeper was a key piece in winning the world title in 2002 with the Brazilian National Team. Born in Santos in 1974, Marcos spent virtually his entire career at Palmeiras, becoming an absolute idol for the fans. Since his debut for the club in 1996, he built a relationship of love with Allianz Parque that lasted more than 15 years and marked generations of supporters. At the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea, Marcos was the starting goalkeeper for the Brazilian National Team in all seven matches of the victorious campaign. Solid and reliable throughout the entire tournament, he was elected the second-best goalkeeper of the competition, contributing decisively to Brazil's fifth World Cup championship. Throughout his career, Marcos won important titles with Palmeiras, including the historic Copa Libertadores in 1999 — considered the greatest achievement in the green-and-white club's history — as well as a Copa do Brasil and several state championships.
