Mario Jardel

Mario Jardel

Mario Jardel was one of the greatest strikers of his Brazilian generation, known for his physical power and goal-scoring instinct that made him a reference in Portuguese football during the 1990s. After starting his career in Brazilian football at Internacional, he transferred to Porto in 1996, where he lived the brightest phase of his career, becoming a three-time Portuguese champion and top scorer in Europe in the 1998-99 season, when he scored 36 goals and won the European Golden Boot. After his successful spell at Porto, Jardel also played for Galatasaray, Bolton Wanderers and other clubs, but never repeated the same level of performance shown in Portugal. With the Brazilian national team, he had few opportunities, but his legacy as a striker remained marked in European football.
