Mauro Ramos
Mauro Ramos was a Brazilian center-back who became one of the great captains in the history of the Brazilian national team, leading the squad to victory in the 1962 World Cup, in Chile. Before establishing himself in São Paulo football, he played for smaller clubs in the state of São Paulo before standing out professionally. At Santos Football Club, he formed one of the most respected defensive partnerships in Brazilian football alongside prominent teammates during the club's golden era, which also featured Pelé, being a key player in the conquest of state, national and international titles for the Santos team in the early 1960s. For the Brazilian national team, Mauro Ramos is remembered mainly for being the captain of the World Cup-winning team in 1962, exercising technical and emotional leadership in a squad that also featured Garrincha, Didi and Vava, even after Pelé's injury early in the competition.
