Mengálvio Pedro Figueiró was born in Laguna, Santa Catarina, on October 17, 1939, and was one of the midfielders of Santos who accompanied Pelé during the club's golden years. He played for Santos between 1960 and 1969, with approximately 371 matches and 28 goals, and participated in the conquests of the Taça Brasil between 1961 and 1965, the Copa Libertadores in 1962 and 1963, and the Club World Cup of the same years. In the 1962 final against Peñarol, he played in all three matches. For the Brazilian national team, he made 13 appearances and scored one goal. He was part of the squad that won the World Cup in 1962 in Chile, but did not play in the tournament.
