John Obi Mikel was born on April 22, 1987, in Jos, Nigeria, and stood out as a defensive midfielder and organizer. He gained prominence in the 2005 FIFA U-20 World Cup, when Nigeria was runner-up and he received the Silver Ball. After a spell at Lyn, from Norway, he signed with Chelsea in 2006, following a transfer dispute with Manchester United. He remained at the English club until 2017, becoming a key player in a winning generation. With Chelsea, he won the Premier League, the FA Cup, the League Cup, the UEFA Champions League in 2011-12, and the UEFA Europa League in 2012-13. With Nigeria, he won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2013 and participated in the FIFA World Cups of 2010, 2014, and 2018.
