Paul McStay was born on October 22, 1964, in Hamilton, Scotland, and became one of the greatest midfielders in Celtic's history. Coming from a family tied to the club, he spent his entire professional career in Glasgow. Elegant and intelligent in building plays, he was Celtic's captain for years and accumulated 677 matches and 72 goals for the team, between 1981 and 1997. An ankle injury ended up anticipating his retirement. For Scotland's national team, he played 76 games and scored 9 goals between 1983 and 1997. In his club career, he was Scottish champion and lifted the Scottish Cup on more than one occasion, including Celtic's centenary season, in 1987–88.
