Pauleta
Pauleta was one of the greatest strikers in the history of Portuguese football, nicknamed 'Eagle of the Azores'. A center forward with rare goal-scoring instinct, he scored 47 goals for the Portuguese national team, a record that would only be surpassed by Cristiano Ronaldo. Born in Ponta Delgada, in the Azores, he had a late start to his career in continental football, playing for Estoril and Salamanca, from Spain, before establishing himself at Deportivo La Coruña. It was in France, however, that he became a star: he shone at Bordeaux and became an idol and captain of Paris Saint-Germain. At PSG, between 2003 and 2008, he scored 109 goals and ended his spell as the club's greatest goalscorer at that time, winning two Coupe de France titles. He was twice Ligue 1 top scorer and played for Portugal in the World Cups of 2002 and 2006 and in the European Championships of 2000 and 2004, being runner-up in the European Championship at home.
