Rabah Madjer

Rabah Madjer is one of the greatest names in Algerian and African football history, immortalized by his iconic heel goal in the 1987 European Cup final, scored by FC Porto against Bayern Munich. Developed at MC Alger in Algeria, Madjer transferred to FC Porto in the mid-1980s, where he experienced the most successful period of his career. He also played for Valencia in Spain before returning to the Portuguese club. With the Algerian national team, he participated in the 1982 and 1986 World Cups, being one of the protagonists of Algeria's historic 2-1 victory over West Germany in 1982, considered one of the greatest shocks in World Cup history. He was also part of the Algerian squad that won the 1990 African Cup of Nations, held on home soil. In 1987, he was elected African Footballer of the Year by France Football, recognition for his decisive performance in FC Porto's European title. After retiring, he pursued a career as a coach, including spells with Algeria's national team.
