Rio Ferdinand
Rio Ferdinand is one of the greatest English centre-backs of his generation, having come through the youth academy at West Ham United. He stood out for his uncommon technical elegance for a defender, excellent ball distribution, and defensive leadership. After transferring to Leeds United in 2000 for a record fee for a British defender, he established himself as a regular for the English national team. In 2002, he was signed by Manchester United, where he formed one of the most respected centre-back partnerships in the Premier League alongside Nemanja Vidić. At Manchester United, Ferdinand won virtually all the major titles available to an English club, including multiple Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League in 2008, becoming one of the most decorated centre-backs in English football.
