Roberto Mancini

Roberto Mancini

Roberto Mancini is one of the greatest Italian players of his generation, having built a brilliant career mainly at Sampdoria of Genoa. Elegant and technical, he was an attacking midfielder who combined sharp game vision, precise dribbling and an enviable eye for goal. Born on November 27, 1964 in Jesi, in the Marches, he began his training in Bologna's youth categories before transferring to Sampdoria in 1982, the club with which he would conquer his main titles. Wearing the blucerchiata shirt, he was a key piece in the golden age of the Genoese club, led by coach Vujadin Boškov. For Sampdoria, he was fundamental in winning the Scudetto 1990-91, four editions of the Coppa Italia and reached the Champions League final of 1992 — losing to Barcelona of Johan Cruyff 1-0 in extra time. After stints at Lazio and Leicester City, he ended his playing career in 2002. As a coach, Mancini became even more famous: he won three consecutive Scudetti with Inter Milan (2006-07, 2007-08, 2008-09), the Premier League with Manchester City in 2012 and, in his greatest achievement, the Euros 2020 title with the Italian national team.
