Rodrigo Palacio

Rodrigo Palacio

Rodrigo Palacio is one of the most respected Argentine forwards of his generation, recognized for his refined technique, quick thinking speed, and the distinctive ponytail that became his trademark. Throughout more than two decades of career, he played for major clubs in world football and represented the Argentine national team in historic moments. Born on February 5, 1982 in Bahía Blanca, Argentina, he began his professional career at Banfield before transferring to Boca Juniors, where he won the Copa Libertadores in 2007. His international visibility grew with spells in Europe, standing out at Genoa and, especially, at Inter Milan and Bologna. For the Argentine national team, he participated in the World Cup in 2014 in Brazil, in which Argentina reached the final against Germany. In extra time, Palacio had the shot at his feet that could have given the title to Argentina — but the finish went over the goal. Germany won 1-0 in extra time. His longevity was admirable: he continued playing at a high level until the age of 40 in Italian football. He is regarded as one of the most complete and consistent forwards of his generation in South America.
