Romerito
Romerito is considered one of the greatest players in Paraguay's history and an idol at Fluminense, where he formed one of the best midfields in Brazilian football during the 1980s. He was elected Best Player in the Americas in 1985. Discovered by Sportivo Luqueño, he was signed by New York Cosmos in 1980 and won the North American league alongside veterans such as Carlos Alberto Torres. In 1984 he joined Fluminense and was a key player for the Brazilian championship-winning team that year, alongside Washington and Assis, as well as Rio de Janeiro state titles in 1984 and 1985. Playing for Paraguay, he competed in the 1986 World Cup, when the national team reached the Round of 16, and scored a goal in a 1-1 draw with Mexico, the host nation. After Fluminense, he played for Barcelona, Puebla, where he was a Mexican champion, and clubs in Paraguay before retiring.
