Rudi Völler
Rudolf Völler, universally known as Rudi Völler, is one of the greatest strikers in the history of German football. A classic center-forward with rare positional intelligence, Völler combined excellent movement, skill in aerial play and composure in finishing to be one of the most complete center-forwards of his generation. His club career was marked by great spells at Werder Bremen, where he established himself in the Bundesliga, and at AS Roma, where he became a fan idol during five seasons. He won the European Champions League in 1992–93 with Olympique de Marseille, in an episode later involved in controversy related to match-fixing in the French league, but without affecting the European title. For the West German and later reunified Germany national team, Völler participated in four World Cups, with the pinnacle being the world title in 1990 in Italy. After hanging up his boots, he had a brilliant career as a coach and executive, leading the German national team to the 2002 World Cup final and later acting as technical director of the DFB.
