Ruud Geels

Ruud Geels was one of the greatest strikers of Dutch football in the 1970s. An opportunistic finisher with precise shooting, he built his fame at Ajax, where he became a prolific goalscorer in the Eredivisie. Before arriving in Amsterdam, he played for Feyenoord, Go Ahead Eagles and Club Brugge in Belgium, where he gained prominence as a center forward. At Ajax, between the mid-1970s and the end of the decade, he was the main offensive player of a team rebuilding after the Johan Cruyff era, winning national titles and being the top scorer of the Dutch championship in several consecutive seasons. For the Dutch national team, Geels was part of the group that competed in the 1978 World Cup in Argentina, in which the Dutch finished as runners-up.
