Samuel Kuffour
Samuel Kuffour was born on September 3, 1976, in Kumasi, Ghana. A strong-willed defender with a commanding personality, he joined the Ghanaian national team that won the U-17 World Championship in 1991 and transferred to Bayern Munich as a teenager. At Bayern, where he stayed from 1993 to 2005, he became one of the club's most important defenders. He was part of the squad that won the Champions League in 2000-01 and the Club World Cup (Intercontinental Cup) in 2001, as well as several Bundesliga titles. He is immortalized by an emotional image: after Bayern's defeat to Manchester United in the 1999 Champions League final, Kuffour punched the ground in despair. Two years later, he celebrated the continental title won in 2001.
