Sávio

Sávio

Sávio was one of the most skillful wingers in Brazilian football in the 1990s, recognized for his speed, dazzling dribbling and ability to create plays down the left side of the field. A native of Fortaleza (CE), he began his rise at Flamengo before becoming a respected name in Europe. His stint at AS Monaco, in the French Ligue 1, was the springboard for his career's great leap: the transfer to Real Madrid, where he rubbed shoulders with stars such as Raúl, Roberto Carlos and Hierro. At the white club, he was part of the squad that competed for Spanish titles at the turn of the millennium. Sávio also had stints at Deportivo de La Coruña and Tenerife before returning to Brazil, where he played for Grêmio and other clubs. In the Brazilian national team, he was called up on several occasions during the golden era of the 1990s, participating in friendlies and continental competitions. His international career solidified the reputation of Brazilian football as an exporter of skillful wingers to the great European clubs of the time.
