Sol Campbell was born in Newham, London, on September 18, 1974. A strong and quick defender, he made his debut at Tottenham, where he was captain and won the English League Cup in 1998–99. In 2001 he transferred to Arsenal, a team with which he won the Premier League in 2001–02 and 2003–04, the latter undefeated, and the FA Cup in 2002, 2003 and 2005. He scored for Arsenal in the 2005–06 Champions League final. For England, he played 73 matches and scored one goal, participating in the World Cups of 1998, 2002 and 2006. He also played for Portsmouth, Notts County and Newcastle, and was FA Cup champion in 2008 with Portsmouth.
